Physical violence against anyone, let alone a pregnant woman, is never acceptable under any circumstances. As a professional in a position of authority, a lecturer should be a role model for their students and treat them with respect and dignity.

The incident of Dr. Desmond Izunwanwanne slapping a pregnant student is deeply disturbing and raises serious concerns about the lecturer’s behaviour and professionalism. Such an act not only violates the student’s right to safety and security but also undermines the integrity of the educational institution.

The physical and emotional trauma that the student must have experienced cannot be measured. Pregnancy is already a time of vulnerability for women, and the added stress of such an incident could have serious consequences for both the mother and the unborn child.
