Nominees Of President Tinubu’s Ministerial List and their Profiles

On Thursday, July 27th, the list of ministerial nominees was handed down to the Senate and read out by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. The list contained a number of influential politicians as it included 4 ex – governors, 7 women and 17 women. Recall that this submission aligns with the constitution that specifies that the president has 60 days starting on the day he takes office to appoint ministers. 

Below is a full list of the nominees and their profile:

i) Engineer Abubakar Momoh hails from Edo State. In 2019, he left APC for PDP where he contested in the Edo North Senatorial Election and lost. He later went back to APC. He served as a Member of the House of Representatives for two terms.

ii) Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar hails from Bauchi State. He served as a Member of the House of Representatives from 2007 – 2011. He ran for the governorship of Bauchi State twice. 

iii) Arch. Ahmed Dangiwa hails from Katsina State. He became the CEO of Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

iv) Barr Hannatu Musawa hails from Katsina State. She is one of the females among the nominees. She was the All Progressives Congress, APC’s deputy spokesperson and director of public affairs.

v) Uche Nnaji hails from Enugu State. He once ran for the governorship of Enugu State under the APC umbrella. 

vi) Dr Betta Edu hails from Cross River. She is another female among the nominees. She became the youngest woman to hold the position of National Women Leader for the All Progressives Congress in 2022.

vii) Dr Doris Aniche hails from Imo State. She was a former Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy in Imo State. She also served as a former General Manager for Zenith Bank.

viii) David Umahi hails from Ebonyi State. He and Ombo Isokarari co-founded Norman Engineering and Construction Nig. Limited, and he ran it as general manager from its founding in 1989 to 1993.

ix) Nyesom Wike hails from Rivers State. He is also the immediate past governor of Rivers State. 

x) Mohamed Badaru hails from Jigawa State. He is the proprietor of the Talamiz group of enterprises, the chairman of the presidential committee on fertilizer, and the chairman of the presidential committee on non-oil revenue.

xi) Nasir El – Rufai hails from Kaduna State. He was named director of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and secretary of the National Council of Privatization in November 1999, roles in which he and vice president Atiku Abubakar oversaw the privatization of major state-owned businesses. He was also made Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in July 2003.

xii) Ekperikpe Ekpo hails from Akwa – Ibom. He served as the Member of the House of Representatives from 2007 – 2011.  He is also the Director-General of Akwa Ibom Democratic Forum. 

xiii) Nkiru Onyejiocha hails from Abia State. She received the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria’s (PASSAN) award for the most dynamic female lawmaker in Nigeria during the seventh session. She represents the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State as a prominent member of the Federal House of Representatives.

xiv) Olubunmi Ojo hails from Ondo State. is a legislator representing Ondo State’s Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency.

xv) Stella Okotekpe hails from Delta State. She holds a prominent position in the All Progressives Congress, or APC. She served as the APC Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee’s (CECPC) National Women Leader.

xvi) Uju Kennedy hails from Anambra State. She is prominent for mobilising support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the then Governor of Lagos State. 

xvii) Bello Mohammed Goroyo hails from Sokoto State. He served as Sokoto State’s Commissioner for Information under Governor Aminu Tambuwal. Prior to his defection, he served as the chairman of the publicity and media committee for the PDP’s governorship campaign in Sokoto State.

xviii) Dele Alake is an Ekiti State-born journalist, activist, and technocrat.

xix) Lateef Fagbemi hails from Kwara State. He has held judicial positions in the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, among other Nigerian courts. He is currently serving as the All-Progressive Congresses, APC, team’s lead counsel in the legal defence of the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

xx) Mohammed Idris hails from Niger State. He is the Blueprint newspaper’s founder, chairman, and publisher. Additionally, he serves as the chairman of Kings Broadcasting Limited, the company that owns WE 106.5 FM in Abuja, Nigeria.

xxi) Olawale Edun hails from Ogun State. Since March 2008, he has been CEO at Chapel Hill Denham Group. Edun served as President Bola Tinubu’s special advisor on monetary policies prior to being nominated.

xxii) Adebayo Adelabu hails from Oyo State. He served as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Deputy Governor (Operations) in the past. 

xxiii) Imma Suleiman hails from Nasarawa State. Before former President Muhammadu Buhari announced a switch, she served as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) from 1 December 2020 until 27 May 2021. She was then reassigned as the Honourable Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.

xxiv) Ali Pate hails from Bauchi State. He was once the World Bank Group’s Global Director for Health, Nutrition, and Population as well as the Director of the GFF, or Global Financing Facility for Women, Children, and Adolescents. Pate previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health.

xxv) Joseph Utseve hails from Benue State. He is a former rector of the federal polytechnic in Wanune, Tarka LGA, Benue State, and a construction engineer.

xxvi) Abubaka Kyari hails from Borno State. He is the son of the late Abba Kyari. From 2015 until his resignation in April 2022, he served as the senator for Borno State’s Borno North Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly. He is an APC member and serves as the party’s acting national chairman.

xxvii) John Eno hails from Cross River. He belonged to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) until May 2017, at which point he switched to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), ran for governor, and lost to Ben Ayade.

xxviii) Sani Abubakar Danladi hails from Taraba State. He served as Taraba State’s deputy governor and acting governor in the past. Prior to his impeachment, he also represented Taraba North Senatorial Zone as a senator for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
