Lagos State Government Commends Badagry Deep Sea Port as a Beacon of Potential

In a recent Stakeholders’ Meeting organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives in conjunction with Badagry Port Development Limited, the Lagos State Government hailed the proposed Badagry Deep Sea Port as a shining example of the immense growth and development potential of the region.

Mrs. Adetutu Ososanya, FCA, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized the strategic and economic importance of the Badagry Deep Sea Port project, highlighting the anticipated surge of investments in the area upon its completion. She further emphasized that the port’s development should extend beyond its boundaries, positively impacting the surrounding communities through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

To ensure the realization of this vision, the Permanent Secretary urged relevant government agencies to actively participate in the decision-making process, aligning their efforts with existing laws and policies of Lagos State. Collaboration and synergy among stakeholders were deemed crucial for the timely completion of the project.

Surveyor Ayokunnu Adesina, the Acting Surveyor-General of Lagos State, provided a technical overview of the project, stating that the land for the Badagry Deep Sea Port has already been identified and resettlement plans have been put in place for affected communities. The Office of the Surveyor-General expressed readiness to provide necessary support for the project.

Representatives from Badagry Port Development Limited confirmed that the Badagry Deep Sea Port is a $2.6 billion endeavor, set to become the second-largest port in Africa. They expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and various government agencies for their commitment and collaboration, expressing confidence that any obstacles to the project would be effectively addressed.

Acknowledging the support received from the communities, Mr. Justin Okwuofu, the Community Relations Manager of Badagry Port Development Limited, expressed appreciation to the people of Badagry.

In response, representatives from several government departments, including Physical Planning & Urban Development, Lands, Justice, and Local Government & Community Affairs, affirmed their dedication to expediting all processes required for the successful launch of the project.

The Badagry Deep Sea Port stands as a symbol of Lagos State’s potential for growth, innovation, and a sustainable economy. With the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, the project aims to bring about transformative change, not only locally but also at the national and global levels.
