Kenyan Chef Surpasses Hilda Baci’s Record

A Kenyan Chef named Maliha Mohammed has beaten Nigerian Hilda Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, for the title of longest cooking marathon by an individual. Mohammed succeeded in her attempt barely two months after Hilda Baci broke the Guinness world record indicating she intended to do so.

Maliha Mohammed, a well-known Kenyan chef who in 2019 broke the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking period by an individual, challenged by Hilda Baci‘s achievements, decided to make yet another amazing accomplishment.

Based in Mombasa, Chef Maliha cooked non-stop for an impressive 75 hours at the Kenya Bay Beach Resort on August 18, 2019, securing her place in culinary history. Chef Mohammed started her cook-a-thon on August 11 and after 95 hours and 15 minutes of cooking on Tuesday, she unofficially set a new record

She displayed her talent and love for the culinary arts with a list of 400 recipes that included both regional and international cuisines, all in an effort to get into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Videos that were shared online showed her fans’ excitement as they cheered and applauded her after she finished her record-breaking feat and turned off the gas.

On Wednesday, Chef Maliha disclosed on Instagram that she has applied December 2022 to try to beat the record in 2023.

She received a notification email telling her the challenge would happen in August. On August 11 and November 11, respectively, the determined chef plans to try two records: the Longest Cooking by an Individual Marathon and the Home Kitchen Cooking Marathon.

The two-time Guinness World Record (GWR) holder, a mother of two, shared photos of her new feat online in celebration. Maliha posted a customized flier with the bold words “NEW WORLD RECORD” on her Instagram profile on Tuesday to announce her accomplishment.

@seagasltd Yes, we did it! New world record holder for the longest home kitchen cooking marathon in town Shukran for the support,” she wrote.

In 2019 when she  broke the GWR for cooking 75 hours, and in 2018, she did the same by cooking 72 hours. Maliha said demonstrating her dedication and determination to beat the world record again .She also announced how she has been preparing for months for this challenge and it took awhile for GWR to accept her application, however they did accept her email-based application that she sent last year.

The woman expressed her appreciation for the help and support she had received from her Kenyan supporters, In her words:  “I know the love, the support I had gotten in 2019 was immense, and now I need your support one more time.

The longest cooking marathon was completed by 26-year-old Hilda Baci in 93 hours and 11 minutes. Tuesday, June 13, 2023 saw her formally recognised as the Guinness World Record holder. The Nigerian chef commenced her marathon on Thursday, May 11, and continued tirelessly until Monday, May 15, preparing more than 100  food recipes  during her impressive four-day kitchen feat.

Hilda intended to establish a record of 100 hours, but she was shortened by almost seven hours as a result of taking unintentionally longer than intended during one of her rest periods. 

Following the announcement that celebrity cook Hilda Baci has beeb surpassed Indian cook, Lata Tondon to earn the title of official record holder.

Following a careful review of all the available information, Guinness World Records  officially declared that Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has broken the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual completing it in an amazing 93 hours and 11 minutes.

This achievement has stirred the internet and got so many people around the world talking. It has also put Nigeria in the spotlight .

Maliha is devoted to her work as a teacher at Gourmet Academy 254. She is a chef of culinary arts. Her dedication to empowering budding chefs serves as another proof of her love for imparting her skills.

Maliha received the prestigious Woman of Excellence in Tourism award in 2021 from the Kenya Association of Women in Tourism (KAWT), which is evidence of her influence in the culinary and societal realms.

Chef Maliha Mohammed is an example to many in the culinary industry and beyond because of her persistent commitment, unstoppable energy, and astounding accomplishments.

Despite Chef Mohammed ‘s success, Guinness World Records has not formally acknowledged her new record
