The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Aviation Options Group (ASG) to boost aviation technology.
The Ministry of Aviation announced this development in a statement on Friday, stating that the MoU would assist the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in areas of competencies, coaching, and certification, with the aim of positioning the institution as a regional training center for Africa in civil aviation.
The MoU also includes the provision of support to NCAT for the acquisition of three Full Flight Simulators and certification of one B737NG Full Flight Simulator. ASG and its associates will also provide ground handling services, Maintenance, Repairs and Overhaul (MRO), and other training services for the College.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Aviation, Emmanuel Meribole, signed the MoU on behalf of the Nigerian government and described the occasion as a “watershed.” He expressed his optimism that the collaboration would create new “vistas of opportunities” for the College and the aviation sector as a whole.
Meribole informed the ASG management that Nigeria was the ultimate destination and hub of aviation in Africa, and any investment in the sector is worthwhile. He added that the Nigerian government would continue to invest in the sector as the collaboration with ASG is a subset of the Aviation Master Plan envisioned by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, and approved by the President of Nigeria.
The signing of the MoU is a significant step towards enhancing the technological capabilities of the Nigerian aviation industry and positioning it as a key player in the African aviation landscape.
