BBNaija Laycon, bags a Master’s Degree in a UK University

Laycon, the overall winner of the Big Brother Nigeria reality show, has bagged a Master’s degree and a second degree from the University of Portsmouth in England. The Nigerian rapper described the accomplishment as a “dream become reality”. The singer-songwriter released a clip from the BBNaija programme from 2020 in which he discussed his plans to study International relations in the UK with his colleagues. Additionally, he released a video about his academic performance. “Follow your dreams and your heart. MA is secured”, he wrote.

 Who is Laycon?

The Nigerian rapper, Olamilekan Massoud Al-Khalifah Agbeleshebioba, popularly known as Laycon, was born and bred in Lagos, Nigeria. He hails from Baluwen in the Odeda region of Ogun state. From 2003 through 2009, he started attending the Lagos State Model College in Merian, Nigeria. He was also admitted to the prestigious University of Lagos in 2012 to study Philosophy where he received a second- class upper division diploma in 2016.

On the 19th of July, 2020, Laycon joined the Big Brother Naija show as the nineteenth contestant and he quickly became the viewers favorite. On the 22nd of July, 2020, he became the first housemate to receive an Instagram verification in the season. He set a record by becoming the first housemate ever to gain a million Instagram followers while still in the house.

On September 27, 2020, during the show’s finale, he was crowned the winner of the show and was awarded the $85 million grand prize and he received 60% of the viewers vote.

Laycon started songwriting and rapping at a very young age and with his passion for music, he was enlisted as one of  the top ten performers at the Coke studio university of Lagos Concert in 2014. In 2019, Laycon joined the Olugbenga Jackson’s Fierce Nation record label.

Using his verified Twitter account, Laycon shared some clips from the 2020 BBNaija show in which he discussed his plans to study International Relations in the United Kingdom with his fellow housemates. Also, he released a video which he took at the university about his academic performance. In his words “Follow your heart, follow your dreams. MA in the bag, For the past 18 months, I’ve been chasing one of my dreams and I’m happy to say I have successfully completed my MA degree in International Relations from the University of Portsmouth. On to the next dream !!!”

He expressed his appreciation to all who made it possible for him to graduate. He said “Congratulations to me. Thanks so much to everyone who made this possible. I no fit mention everybody but I go try to mention everyone wey I remember.Today na my graduation oo, so in case you see any picture or video of me wey I dey wear graduation gown. No be Photoshop ooo!! Before professional pictures come, cheers to me!! MA International Relations 🧡”

This accomplishment is not shocking because Laycon has always been a driven individual. He earned the hearts of many Nigerians throughout his stay in the Big Brother Naija home with his knowledge, ingenuity, and humility.

Asides his academic excellence, he has made wave in the entertainment industry, he has won some awards- City People Music Award, African Entertainment Award, USA, Naija Traffic Awards, Net Honours 

Laycon has recorded two studio albums, Shall We Begin and I am Laycon, both of which were released in 2021, as well as two EPs, two mixtapes, and an adequate percentage of singles since he first began pursuing music professionally.

Oppo Nigeria, GOTv Nigeria, Mentos Fresh, Orijin, Mentos Fresh, and OPay are just a few of the well-known companies in Nigeria that Laycon currently represents or has previously represented. He’s also the current Ogun StateYouth Ambassador. 

It is apparent that Laycon is a goal getter as he is gaining ground in terms of academics and career despite the fact that he is the winner of the Big Brother Naija Season 5 and a sickle cell carrier, he did not allow his health issues affect his dreams and ambitions. He has continued to advocate for genotype screening before marriage as he is an ambassador of a Sickle Cell Foundation.
