Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has encouraged pregnant and nursing mothers to seize the opportunity of the ongoing free Rotavirus vaccination in the state to safeguard their infants against the deadly disease.
Mrs Soludo made the call in Awka while highlighting the essence of the exercise, which aims to take away the financial burden on low-income families and prevent the child-killer virus from ravaging Anambra State.
Recently, Anambra State Government partnered with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, to provide the Rotavirus vaccine for free across public health facilities in the state. The vaccine is administered to infants between the ages of zero to twelve months and prevents diarrhea-related sicknesses, including severe watery diarrhea, fever and vomiting.
Mrs Soludo emphasized that it is essential for mothers to take the vaccination programme seriously and urged parents to monitor their children’s hygiene and consumption habits. She also appealed to all stakeholders to create more awareness about the free Rotavirus vaccination in Anambra State and ensure that every child is vaccinated.
The governor’s wife maintained that her husband’s administration is committed to enacting sound health policies aimed at protecting women and children in the state.
