View the footage depicting a woman engaging in the exploitation of underage girls as commercial sex workers in Oba, Anambra State.
Sex Workers in Oba – Yesterday, on June 23, 2023, a distressing incident took place in Oba, Anambra State, Nigeria. A woman, commonly known as Nwanyi Ukwu Venza, was reportedly involved in exploiting underage girls as commercial sex workers near the prominent Oba junction.
What is most concerning is the brazen manner in which she carried out these activities, seemingly unaffected by any sense of wrongdoing.
Many of these young girls may have concerned parents or guardians searching for them. Instead of assisting these girls in reconciling with their families, especially if they left home due to youthful waywardness or exuberance typical of their generation, this mature woman opted to exploit them.
One cannot help but question the actions of the Nigerian government in addressing such issues effectively.
In contrast, if a similar operation were to be conducted in South Africa, this woman would not be able to conduct her business so boldly. If apprehended, she would likely face severe consequences under child trafficking and prostitution laws, potentially leading to a lengthy prison sentence.
Incidents like this continue to occur openly in Nigeria due to the lack of robust laws protecting women and children and the absence of a thriving human rights framework.

Ife Aka Di Zi Kwa Na Oba?
Scandalous Underage Prostitution Ring Exposed in Oba, Anambra State
By Uche Nworah, Ph.D
Oba community in the Idemili South local government area of Anambra state gained popularity through its slogan ‘Ife di na Oba,’ which was originally intended to promote the town’s special palm wine to the outside world. However, the originators of this slogan did not anticipate its unfortunate association with a scandalous underage prostitution ring recently uncovered by the town’s vigilante services.
In a viral video that has come to my attention, young girls aged 13 to 15 years old were apprehended at a brothel near Oba junction. Shockingly, the operator of the establishment was also apprehended while holding a newborn baby. One cannot help but wonder how she would feel if her own child were subjected to such acts at the age of 13.
This distressing incident highlights the wickedness and vileness that exists in our world today. Urgent action is required from the Anambra state Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the police to address this matter. It is essential to identify and expose the individuals behind these inhuman and illegal operations, ensuring that they face prosecution.
Equally important is the rehabilitation and reintegration of the affected girls into society. Efforts should be made to identify their families, and if negligence is found, social services should intervene, considering the possibility of placing the girls up for adoption. By doing so, we can provide them with a chance for a better future.
Furthermore, it is imperative to identify the masterminds behind these activities in order to sever the supply chain. These individuals have a propensity for operating baby factories, which have unfortunately proliferated in the South-East region. It is crucial to address this issue comprehensively and prevent further harm.
We live in a world where such heinous acts occur, but it is through our collective actions and dedication to justice that we can strive to make it safer and more compassionate for everyone.
